Situation report on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome

The following is jointly issued by the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority:

There is only one new confirmed case of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) today (May 25). However, the number of patients recovered and discharged from hospitals continues to rise to 1275. Of them, 9 were discharged today.

On the other hand, the number of SARS patients in intensive care unit continues to drop to a new low of 38 from 127 in mid-April. These 38 cases are part of the 112 active cases under treatment in hospitals. Most of the patients are showing positive responses to the treatment protocol. In addition, 72 are recovering patients in convalescence and in preparation for discharge.

Four patients died in Tseung Kwan O Hospital (TKOH), Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNH), Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) and Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH). This brought to 266 the total number of deaths relating to SARS.

The deceased include three women and one man aged 68 to 74. Their information is as follows:
