CE meets Mainland medical scientists

The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, met a visiting delegation of medical scientists and professionals led by the Vice-President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Chen Zhu, today (May 15) to exchange experience and ideas on controlling the spread of atypical pneumonia.

At the meeting with Mr Tung, Professor Chen expressed appreciation of the way Hong Kong combats the disease and acknowledged the achievements made by Hong Kong experts in medical research. He also highly commended Hong Kong for containing the disease within a short time.

The Mainland delegation is on a three-day study visit to Hong Kong. They will meet medical and health officials as well as experts from the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong to understand how Hong Kong deals with the disease in the areas of prevention and treatment. They also hope to exchange experience with Hong Kong experts on scientific research.

Professor Chen is the second Mainland scientist awarded the title of Overseas Member of the US National Academy of Sciences.
