Junior students to go back to school on Monday

****************************************

The Education and Manpower Bureau today (May 15) reminded parents that Primary Three and below at primary and special schools, all levels at schools for the mentally handicapped, kindergartens and childcare centres would resume classes on Monday (May 19) as scheduled.

"With the 380,000 students and over 40,000 nursery children concerned going back to school on Monday, the phased resumption of classes will be completed," a bureau spokesman said.

To ensure the smooth resumption of classes, the spokesman called on parents to co-operate with schools to protect their children against atypical pneumonia.

"Parents should pay extra attention to the health of their children and take their temperature daily. If children have a fever and other symptoms like body pain and lack of energy, chill, headache, cough and shortness of breath, they should not be allowed to go to school and should seek medical advice immediately," he said.

"If children are in good health, parents should jot down their temperature and sign a record sheet to return to school."

"Parents are also required to provide their children with face masks and tissues and to remind them to pay attention to personal hygiene, such as washing hands frequently and refraining from sharing lunch boxes, drinks and personal items with others," the spokesman added.

For enquiries about class resumption of primary and special schools, and kindergartens please call the bureau hotline at 2892 2352.

For enquiries about childcare centres, including nurseries, day creches and special childcare centres, please call the Social Welfare Department's Child Care Centres Advisory Inspectorate or the hotline at 2835 2725 and 2343 2255 respectively.
