Situation report on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome

The following is jointly issued by the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority:

As at 3 pm today (May 15), there is an additional five patients confirmed to have Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) following admission to public hospitals earlier. They include one healthcare worker from Queen Mary Hospital. The remaining four are other patients and contacts of patients with SARS.

A total of 1160 patients have recovered from SARS and have been discharged from public hospitals. Of them, 32 were discharged today. There are now 309 patients in hospital, of whom 67 are recovering patients who are in convalescence and preparation for discharge.

Most of the patients currently in hospital are showing positive responses to the treatment protocol. Fifty-four patients are receiving treatment in intensive care unit.

Seven patients died in Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH), Tai Po Hospital (TPH), Caritas Medical Centre (CMC), Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) and United Christian Hospital (UCH). This brought to 234 the total number of deaths relating to SARS.

The deceased include three men and four women aged 36 to 89. Their information is as follows:
