Situation report on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome

The following is jointly issued by the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority:

As at 1 pm today (May 13), there is an additional 6 patients confirmed to have Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) following admission to public hospitals earlier. They include two healthcare workers (one from Princess Margaret Hospital and one from Shatin Hospital). The remaining four are other patients and contacts of patients with SARS.

A total of 1090 patients have recovered from SARS and have been discharged from public hospitals. Of them, 24 were discharged today. There are now 374 patients in hospital, of whom 74 are recovering patients who are in convalescence and preparation for discharge.

Most of the patients currently in hospital are showing positive responses to the treatment protocol. Fifty-seven patients are receiving treatment in intensive care unit.

Seven patients died in Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH), United Christian Hospital (UCH), Tseung Kwan O Hospital (TKOH), Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital (AHNH), Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) and Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH). This brought to 225 the total number of deaths relating to SARS.

The deceased include four women and three men aged from 35 to 79. Their information is as follows:
