CE's transcript

**************

Following are the remarks made by the Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, today (May 9) at the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority's joint press conference:

There are six new cases today. The trend continues to be very encouraging, but I would like to emphasise that the situation remains fluid. There is still a lot of uncertainty out there. This is, after all, a new virus and we cannot let down our guard. In the morning meeting with the principal officials and in the afternoon meeting which was specially called with Dr EK Yeoh and his colleagues, with the Hospital Authority management, I emphasised one more time, we cannot let down our guard. The better we do our work, the more thoroughly we do our work, the more it will be possible in the shortest time for us to achieve a single-digit number, which is lower than what it is today.

I'd also like to appeal to everybody in Hong Kong to look after themselves, their own hygiene and environmental hygiene. The fight against SARS is our most important if not the only thing we are doing as a government today, but I would also say that this is for everybody to be fighting, and I am quite sure that together with the whole community we will win this battle together.
