******************************************************

Eight young Chinese rhythmic gymnastics stars visited the T.W.G.Hs Tang Shiu Kin Primary School in Tuen Mun today (March 3) to demonstrate the vigour and grace of rhythmic gymnastics in front of 800 students.

The performance was part of the sports demonstration series under the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD)'s School Sports Programme (SSP).

The award-winning gymnasts, He Shan, Zou Ya, Xiao Yao, Li Xue, Chen Bing Xin, Li Yan, Deng Si Yu and Ling Jie gave a dazzling display of aesthetic and rhythmic gym with ball, hoop, ribbon, clubs and rope.

Nine school-team members of Tang Shiu Kin Primary School also took part in the performance.

All attending students enjoyed themselves thoroughly in the play-in sessions and quiz games.

The Chinese rhythmic gymnasts had performed to the public under the Healthy Exercise for All Campaign at Kowloon Park Sports Centre, Hong Kong Park Sports Centre and Yeun Wo Road Sports Centre from February 28 to March 2.

Their previous performance at Tseung Kwan O Sports Centre under the SSP had attracted 2,500 students. They will give their final performance in Hong Kong at Wai Tsuen Sports Centre tonight.

To promote rhythmic gymnastics in schools, the LCSD and the Hong Kong Amateur Gymnastic Association had launched the second phase of the Rhythmic Gymnastics Outreach Coaching Programme under the SSP in February, offering 38 courses conducted by two Ukrainian instructors.

Details of the courses can be obtained from the LCSD's website at www.lcsd.gov.hk. Interested schools are welcomed to contact the LCSD's Community Sports Team at 2601 8861.
