The Correctional Services Department (CSD) will stage an exhibition day on Saturday (March 8) to introduce to the public the latest developments in the rehabilitation of offenders at its Staff Training Institute in Stanley.
The biennial Correctional Services Exhibition Day features various correctional programmes for young and adult offenders including educational and vocational training, rehabilitation services, and products and services of Correctional Services Industries. CSD officers will be on hand to answer enquiries from the public.
It is hoped that through knowing more about the work of the CSD, members of the public would better understand the re-integration needs and problems faced by rehabilitated offenders and render them more support in leading a law-abiding life after release.
There will also be a series of demonstrations on the other aspects of work of the Correctional Services.
Visitors will see anti-riot drills, abseiling and self-defence demonstrations by CSD officers as well as a demonstration by the CSD Dog Unit.
There will also be performances by dance groups, choir, jazz band, pipers and marching bands formed by inmates of various correctional institutions and artistic cycling demonstrations.
Staff training facilities at the Staff Training Institute will also be open to the public during the Exhibition Day.
Visitors can also make use of the opportunity to learn more about the evolution of penal administration in Hong Kong over the last 160 years by visiting the Hong Kong Correctional Services Museum adjacent to the Staff Training Institute. The museum was opened in November last year.
The Exhibition Day will be held from 11 am to 5 pm. Admission is free.
The Staff Training Institute, which is located at 47 Tung Tau Wan Road, Stanley, is accessible by bus route numbers 6, 6X, 14, 63, 73, 260, and 973 as well as green minibus route number 40.
