LegCo to Debate Motion of Thanks

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

The Legislative Council will hold a meeting this Wednesday (January 15), Thursday (January 16) and Friday (January 17) at 2:30 pm in the Legislative Council Chamber. During the meeting, Members will debate on the Motion of Thanks.

The motion, to be moved by Hon Mrs Selina CHOW, says: "That this Council thanks the Chief Executive for his address."

The debate will be divided into five sessions. Details are as follows:

Dr Hon YEUNG Sum will move an amendment to the motion. Members will vote on the motion and the amendment at the end the debate.

Before the commencement of the above motion debate, Hon TSANG Yok-sing will propose a motion under the Rules of Procedure of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to "RESOLVED that Rule 13(1) of the Rules of Procedure of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, to the extent that it provides for a Motion of Thanks to be moved at a meeting not less than 14 days after the Chief Executive has

presented a Policy Address to the Council, be suspended to enable a Motion of Thanks to be moved at the Legislative Council meeting of 15 January 2003."

In addition, Hon Mrs Selina CHOW will propose a motion under the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance to extend the period for amending Securities and Futures (Financial Resources) Rules; Securities and Futures (Keeping of Records) Rules; Securities and Futures (Accounts and Audit) Rules; Securities and Futures (Contract Notes, Statements of Account and Receipts) Rules; Securities and Futures (Short Selling and Securities Borrowing and Lending (Miscellaneous)) Rules; Securities and Futures (Licensing and Registration) (Information) Rules; Securities and Futures (Investor Compensation - Claims) Rules; Securities and Futures (Miscellaneous) Rules; Securities and Futures (Stock Market Listing) Rules; Securities and Futures (Price Stabilizing) Rules; Securities and Futures (Disclosure of Interests - Securities Borrowing and Lending) Rules; Securities and Futures (Contracts Limits and Reportable Positions) Rules; Securities and Futures (Levy) Order; Securities and Futures (Levy) Rules; Securities and Futures (Investor Compensation - Levy) Rules; Securities and Futures (Investor Compensation - Compensation Limits) Rules; Securities and Futures (Transfer of Functions - Investor Compensation Company) Order; Securities and Futures Ordinance (Amendment of Schedule 10) Order 2002; Securities and Futures (Transfer of Functions - Stock Exchange Company) Order; Securities and Futures (Fees) Rules; Securities and Futures (Disclosure of Interests - Exclusions) Regulation; Securities and Futures (Offences and Penalties) Regulation; and Securities and Futures Ordinance (Amendment of Schedule 8) Order 2002, which were laid on the table of the Legislative Council on 18 December 2002, to the meeting of 12 February 2003.

During the meeting, Members will ask the Government 20 written questions on various policy areas, all of which require written replies.

Members of the public are welcome to observe the proceedings of the meeting from the public galleries of the Legislative Council Chamber. They may reserve seats by calling 2869 9399 during office hours. Seats will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
