Speech by Acting Chief Executive

*********************************

Following is the speech by the Acting Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, at the Caring Company Award Presentation Ceremony today (December 5):

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

It is my great pleasure to join you at this Caring Company Award Presentation.

Hong Kong takes pride in being a caring society. It has always been a government objective to provide necessary assistance to the needy. Today, I am heartened to learn that, apart from non-government organizations like the HKCSS and its member agencies, the industrial and commercial sectors stand ready to share with us the social responsibility to support to those hit hardest by today's changing economic climate.

The 260 Caring Companies lend a helping hand by sharing resources with non-government charitable bodies, encouraging the companies' employees to participate in volunteer works, and employing the disabled and the disadvantaged. Not only do the participants promote friendship and partnership in charity, they also mobilize support for the less fortunate members of our community.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend our deep thanks to you, organizers and participants alike, for your generous contribution. Let's join hands to build a caring community, a community where our people can live with dignity and harmony. Thank you.
