Voluntary replacement of engine for laser printer

*************************************************

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (October 23) urged consumers, for safety reasons, to stop using "EPSON EPL-9000" monochrome laser printers, which were fitted with an internal component of Fuji Xerox engine.

The appeal was made after a recall announcement was made in Japan on Fuji Xerox engines. It has been reported that excessive heat may be generated at this internal component, posing fire hazards to users.

According to the supplier EPSON Hong Kong Ltd., the laser printer in question was supplied from 1994 to 1997 in Hong Kong. The supplier takes the initiative to provide a free onsite inspection and parts replacement service with immediate effect.

A spokesman for EMSD advised consumers to contact the supplier to arrange for inspection and necessary replacement. Details of the inspection and parts replacement service can be obtained by calling the supplier's hotline 2585 4399.
