Renewal of Appointment of Miss Miriam Yeung as (UNAIDS) HK Ambassador

The following is issued on behalf of the Red Ribbon Centre UNAIDS Collaborating Centre for Technical Support :

Popular artist Miriam Yeung Chin-wah was re-appointed by UNAIDS Geneva, Switzerland as Jointed United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Hong Kong Ambassador on June 1, 2002.

She is the first Hong Kong Ambassador appointed under the UNAIDS Ambassador Scheme since its launching in 1999.

Being very popular in both local and overseas Chinese community, especially among the young people, Miriam successfully facilitates promotion in HIV prevention to the public. She is certainly an influential figure in conveying messages and increasing awareness of fight against HIV/AIDS.

During her last two-year term of contract, she actively participated in various HIV/AIDS prevention activities and demonstrated her enthusiasm in enhancing the community's acceptance of people living with HIV/AIDS.

Her achievement in being the leading role in HIV prevention and care enable her to be appointed again this year by the UNAIDS, Geneva.

The Red Ribbon Centre - UNAIDS Collaborating Centre for Technical Support will continue to work closely with Miriam in carrying out her duty as the UNAIDS Hong Kong Ambassador in the coming year, maximizing the effectiveness in advocating HIV prevention in the Chinese population of Hong Kong, Mainland and Overseas.
