The following is the transcript (English portion) of the media session by the Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, on the penny stocks issue this (August 1) afternoon at the Central Government Offices:
Reporter : Mr Tung, legislators hope that you can set up a commission of
inquiry. Will you consider it?
Mr Tung : Our objective is to find out the truth and nothing but the truth. I think what the Financial Secretary has done by appointing this independent panel to look into this matter is the quickest way to achieve this particular objective. I'm looking forward to receiving the report as soon as possible and then we'll take necessary action after I've seen it.
