David Quah to perform with his lyric tenor

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department presents the Vocal Recital by David Quah (Tenor) in August with enchanting programme including "Dichterliebe" of Schumann, "Seven Sonnets of Michelangelo" of Britten, "Three Songs" of Barber, "Come All Ye songsters of the Sky" and "Music for a while" of Purcell. The recital will be backed by the pianist Nina Yip.

Born in Penang, Malaysia, David Quah obtained an Advanced Diploma in Vocal Performance at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, a Bachelor of Music degree at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Australia and completed the Postgraduate Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. While in Queensland he won the coveted Marianne Mathy Australian Singing Competition and made his professional debut singing Don Ottavio in Mozart's "Don Giovanni" with Opera Queensland.

Coming back to Hong Kong in 2000, Quah started teaching singing and coaching at The HKAPA. Quah regularly performs in South East Asia region and is very active at the local music scene. He has premiered many roles in operas composed by well-known local composers, such as Law Wing-fai's "Dreaming Plum Blossoms Away" and So Ting-cheong's "The Shopkeeper's Daughter". Quah works regularly with the Hong Kong Arts Festival and has recently made his directorial debut with "Kaffee Baroque" during the 2002 Hong Kong Arts Festival. He has also sung in many opera productions by Lo King-man and will perform the role of Goro in Lo's upcoming "Madama Butterfly". Over the years, Quah has sung more than 30 operatic roles, appeared on concert platforms in varied repertoire from Baroque music to oratorios, masses to contemporary compositions, and has performed in the United States, Britain, France, Taipei, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia.

Vocal Recital by David Quah (Tenor) will be staged at 8 pm on August 9 (Friday) at Hong Kong City Hall Theatre. Tickets priced at $150 and $90 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (Discount tickets for students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
