Judicial Appointments

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

The Judiciary today (June 28) announced the appointments of Mr Johnny CHAN Jong-herng, Miss Adriana Noelle CHING, Mr Justin KO King-sau, Mr POON Siu-tung, Mr TAM Kwok-wah, and Miss Ada YIM Shun-yee as Permanent Magistrates, with effect from July 2, 2002.

The biographical notes of the newly-appointed Permanent Magistrates are as follow:

Mr CHAN Jong-herng, Johnny

Mr CHAN was born in Hong Kong in 1964. He obtained LL.B. and P.C.LL. from the University of Hong Kong in 1987 and 1988 respectively. He was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 1988 and was in private practice since 1989.

Miss Adriana Noelle CHING

Miss CHING was born in Hong Kong in 1966. After obtaining LL.B. from the University of London in 1989, she was called to the Bar in the United Kingdom in 1990 and to the Bar in Hong Kong in 1991. She was in private practice since 1991.

Mr KO King-sau, Justin

Mr KO was born in Hong Kong in 1967. He obtained LL.B. from the University of Birmingham in 1992. He was called to the Bar in Hong Kong and to the Bar in the United Kingdom both in 1993. He was in private practice since 1994.

Mr POON Siu-tung

Mr POON was born in Hong Kong in 1967. He obtained LL.B. and P.C.LL. from the University of Hong Kong in 1990 and 1993 respectively. He was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 1994 and was in private practice since then.

Mr TAM Kwok-wah

Mr TAM was born in Hong Kong in 1954. He obtained LL.B. from the University of London (External), Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Chinese and Comparative Law and Master of Arts in Language and Law both from City University of Hong Kong. He was law Clerk of the Legal Aid Department from 1983 to 1995 and Special Magistrate of the Judiciary from 1996 to 2002.

Miss YIM Shun-yee, Ada

Miss YIM was born in Hong Kong in 1966. She obtained LL.B. from the University of Leeds in United Kingdom in 1988, and LL.M. from the University of New South Wales in Australia in 1994. In 1989, she was called to the Bar in the United Kingdom and the Bar in Hong Kong. She was in private practice since 1990.
