Following is the transcript (English portion) of a media session given by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Donald Tsang, after a visit to Tang Shiu Kin Victoria Government Secondary School in Wan Chai today (April 25):
Reporter : Can you comment on yesterday's incident outside LegCo and what will the Government do next with this group of people ?
Mr Tsang : Hong Kong is a law-abiding society. We pride ourselves to be law-abiding in every respect of our daily life. What happened yesterday in front of Legislative Council is totally intolerable. We will take resolute action to prevent recurrence of similar things. But as far as those people who are claiming for the right of abode in Hong Kong, they have to realise that the Court of Final Appeal had passed judgement on it. And the best and realistic thing to do is to go back to the Mainland as soon as possible, put in an application, come back, and to be reunited with their families. That, to me, is a practical and the right thing to do in the circumstances.
Reporter : Would the Government do anything to ensure the security of the officials now like what happened to the car of Mrs Ip ?
Mr Tsang : We will certainly wish to prevent similar things happening to our senior officials.
Reporter : How will you go round doing it ?
Mr Tsang : This is an operational matter with the Police. I think we must have confidence in the Commissioner of Police in discharging his duties.
