Hong Kong-Canadian wireless technology partnership boosts industry business opportunity

*****************************************************

The collaboration on wireless technology between Hong Kong and Canada has moved another step forward with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between industry associations of both regions.

The Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (WTIA) and the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) announced today (March 7, Canada time) the signing of a MoU that will facilitate trade exchange activities and heighten the sharing of industry knowledge between the two economies.

The MoU was signed during the Hong Kong Information Infrastructure Exposition & Conference 2002, and was witnessed by Ms Eva Cheng, Acting Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting and Mr Jean-Claude Bouchard, Assistant Deputy Minister of Industry Canada.

"I am very pleased that the two associations have teamed up for partnership. The collaboration not only promotes industry knowledge flow between the two organisations but also establishes a solid foundation which allows both parties to further promote the exchange of wireless technology, as well as to build stronger business ties between Hong Kong and Canada," Mrs Rosanna Ure, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada) said.

The MoU will facilitate both parties to promote wireless technology and create business opportunities within their own membership and markets. Both organisations will share knowledge, research and data of their respective wireless industries, organise joint promotional events such as trade missions, conferences and exhibitions, and facilitate trade exchange activities.

Prior to the WTIA and CWTA partnership, the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association and the Wireless Innovation Network of British Columbia already signed a MoU to promote the sharing and partnership of wireless technology between member companies of both associations at the "Softworld 2001" held in Vancouver last November.
