Mainland delegation visits infrastructure in Hong Kong

The Vice Chairman of the State Development Planning Commission, Mr Zhang Guobao, today (February 28) led a Mainland delegation to visit some major infrastructure in Hong Kong. The Mainland delegation comprised representatives from the State Development Planning Commission, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Communications, Civil Aviation Administration as well as Guangdong Province and cities.

Mr Zhang and 24 members of his delegation arrived at Lok Ma Chau Control Point via Shenzhen late this afternoon. They were received by the Secretary for Security, Mrs Regina Ip, and the Head of Hong Kong Guangdong Cooperation Coordination Unit, Ms Kitty Choi, of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The party then visited the facilities at Lok Ma Chau and Lo Wu Boundary Control Points.

Accompanied by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Donald Tsang, the delegation will have a helicopter tour tomorrow (March 1) morning to get a bird's eye view of some major infrastructure projects, including the West Rail, the Shenzhen Western Corridor, the Port, the Disney Theme Park and the Hong Kong International Airport.

Later in the day, the delegation will proceed to see infrastructure for air, land and sea transport, including the Hong Kong International Airport, Superterminal 1, West Rail (Siu Hong Station), Tuen Mun River Trade Terminal and Kwai Chung Container Terminal.

Mr Tsang and the HKSAR officials will have a working session with Mr Zhang and his delegation on Saturday (March 2) morning when the two parties will exchange views on infrastructure coordination and cooperation. Mr Zhang and his delegation will also be briefing the HKSAR officials on the latest infrastructure planning in the Mainland.

The Mainland delegation will leave Hong Kong in the evening of March 2.
