Bonnie Choi draws new colors from her Harpsichord

Harpsichord, is an instrument with simple and bright tone, preceded the piano and evolved between the beginning of the 16th century and the end of the 18th century. It has an old-fashioned appearance and always allows audience to recollect the good old days. Bonnie Choi, one of America's most distinguished and versatile young harpsichordists, will show you her superb skills and passions in Hong Kong in late September.

Bonnie Choi "displays dazzling techniques and draws new colours from her instrument" (South China Morning Post), and is known for her "wonderfully expressive playing" (Audio Techniques).

She has outstanding achievements in her music career. Her numerous honours include prizes received at the International Harpsichord Competition in Brugge, Belgium and the National Association of Young Performers Competition. She has concertized widely in North America and Asia (including Hong Kong). She now teaches harpsichord and piano at Nazareth College in Rochester and at Syracuse University.

Choi is the founder and harpsichordist of the Rochester-based Baroque ensemble, Air de Cour, which is sponsored by the New York State Legislature. She received her doctorate in Harpsichord Performance from the University of Michigan, where she studied with Edward Parmentier. Her teachers also include Albert Fuller (Juilliard) and Kenneth Gilbert (Paris Conservatory).

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Harpsichord Recital by Bonnie Choi will bring numerous delightful melodies including J.S. Bach's "Fantasia and Fugue in A Minor, BWV 904", Sweelinck's "Ect-ce Mars", Jean-Baptisete Forqueray's "Jupiter", etc.

The performance will be staged at 8 pm on September 30 (Sunday) at Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $110 and $70 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to full-time students, senior citizens, people with disabilities and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients. Limited tickets for students and CSSA recipients are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
