Contract for works on water supply to HK Disneyland signed

*********************************************************

As part of the infrastructural development for phase 1 Hong Kong Disneyland, a contract for the construction of required facilities to provide fresh water supply for the future theme park was signed today (August 7) between the Water Supplies Department (WSD) and Chun Wo Construction & Engineering Co. Ltd.

Works under the contract mainly include the site formation and construction of a service reservoir in Yam O Tuk with a total storage capacity of 13,000 cubic metres with provision of future extension. A 1,100-metre single track access road linking Cheung Tung Road in Tung Chung to the service reservoir will be constructed.

The contract will also include slope stabilization works, construction of rockfall barriers and laying of pipelines.

Upon completion of works, fresh water will be pumped from the treated water pumping station at Siu Ho Wan Treatment Works through the existing 800mm diameter fresh water trunk main to the Yam O Tuk Fresh Water Service Reservoir. Fresh water will then gravitate to Penny's Bay via the distribution mains network.

The contract, at a cost of $137 million, was signed today between the Director of Water Supplies, Mr Hugh Phillipson, and a representative from the contractor ---- Chun Wo Construction & Engineering Co. Ltd.

Works will begin on August 9 (Thursday) for completion by end of 2003.

End/Tuesday, August 7, 2001
