Scholar allowed entry

*********************

In response to media enquiries, a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government spokesman confirmed tonight (July 30) that American ethnic Chinese scholar Li Shaomin arrived in Hong Kong in the afternoon and was granted entry this evening.

"The HKSAR Government will not allow anybody in Hong Kong to undertake espionage activities and jeopardise the interests of Hong Kong and the States," the spokesman stressed.

Referring to Mr Li's case, he said that it was not the Government's policy to comment on individual cases.

"We will act in accordance with the law and strictly enforce the Immigration Ordinance," the spokesman added.
