Hongkong Post, this evening (July 23), organised a lighting ceremony at the General Post Office to celebrate its 160th Anniversary on August 25, 2001.
Hongkong Post has invited Secretary for Economic Services, Ms Sandra Lee, to join Postmaster General, Mr Luk Ping-chuen, to officiate at the lighting ceremony of a billboard bearing a specially designed Hongkong Post 160th Anniversary Logo put up outside the General Post Office building at 2, Connaught Place, Central. The lights on the billboard symbolises the beacon to lead the Post on the way to an even brighter future.
Speaking at the lighting ceremony, Mr Luk said, "In the past 160 years, Hongkong Post has undergone so many changes, changes that keep pace with the growth of Hong Kong."
The Secretary for Economic Services, Ms Sandra Lee, also stated, "'Customers first' is now an important element of Hongkong Post's service culture......This commitment to providing the best services to customers has been recognised in the results of the Public Perception Survey. The ranking of Hongkong Post in the survey as the best service organisation in Hong Kong has jumped from the fifth in 1997 to second in 2001."
Looking forward, Mr Luk feels confident that guided by its new core values of teamwork and innovation, Hongkong Post is set to deliver the highest standard of services and to thrive in the next 160 years.
Today's lighting ceremony was followed by a cocktail reception held at the same place and attended by over 200 people including Hongkong Post staff, representatives from various government departments and major business partners.
