Advice to teenagers to prevent robbery during summer holidays

*************************************************************

The public, especially teenagers, should be security conscious all the time to avoiding falling prey to robbery and burglary during summer holidays.

The advice was given by the Divisional Commander of Police Aberdeen Division, Mr Lui Hon-kwok today (July 23) following the arrest of a 25-year-old man in connection with a recent spate of robbery and burglary cases in Wah Fu Estate.

The man had been laid charges and brought before the Western Magistrates' Courts this morning.

As the victims in most of these cases were teenagers who were alone either in or outside their flats when the crimes occurred, Police urged teenagers to be aware of any strangers acting suspiciously.

"When there are strangers call at your door, check their identity by ringing the telephone numbers of their offices. Open the door only when the callers' identities are established. If you have doubts, you can call Police for assistance," he said.

"Remember that negligence leads to the successful entry of burglars," he stressed.

"Teenagers, when going out alone, should make use of access that has adequate lighting. Never expose valuables in public places and be on high alert for robbery," he added.

He also appealed to members of the public who might have fallen victims to robbery and burglary in Aberdeen Division in the past few months to come forward.

During Police enquiries, different items of suspected stolen property were discovered inside the flat of the arrested man in Tseung Kwan O.

The property included pearl earrings, pearl necklaces, rings, brooches and a lady's watch.

Mr Lui called on victims of burglary and robbery cases in Aberdeen Division to contact the Divisional Investigation Team, Aberdeen, on 2870 7251 for property identification.
