Hong Kong Youth Music Campers to Give Two Delightful Concerts

Four hundred budding musicians who will receive intensive music training from renowned overseas and local conductors at the "2001 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp" will perform two delightful afternoon concerts on July 29 (Sunday) and August 5 (Sunday) to show their fruitful results to the public.

Presented by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust as well as Tom Lee Music, the fun-filled "2001 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp" is an annual major musical event. The training camp is held from July 22 to August 5 at the Tso Kung Tam Outdoor Recreation Centre.

Apart from music training from renowned overseas and local musicians, the campers will also enjoy an array of recreational and sports activities designed for relaxation and development of musical skills.

Other than the 400 young musicians, over 2,500 participants from schools and various organizations will join the camp as day campers to share the fun of learning music.

The "Camp Concert 1" will be held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall on July 29 (Sunday) at 3 pm. It will be performed by the Symphony Orchestra, Junior Strings, Junior Band and Children's Violin Ensemble under the batons of Mr Yeh Tsung, Music Director of Hong Kong Sinfonietta and US South Bend Symphony Orchestra; Mr Ho Fung, Concertmaster of West Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra; Mr Keung Fan Hau, Conductor of Hong Kong Children's Symphonic Band of the Music Office and Mr Jason Ho, Conductor of St. Stephen College and Kowloon City Baptist Church Orchestras.

Highlights of the programme include Reed's "A Little Concert Suite", Albinoni's "Adagio for Strings and Organ in G Minor", Anderson's "Syncopated Clock" and Copland's Dance Episodes from the Ballet "Rodeo".

The "Camp Concert 2" will be held at the Tsuen Wan Town Hall Auditorium on August 5 (Sunday) at 3 pm. It will be performed by the Chinese Orchestra, Chinese Plucked String Orchestra and Youth Choir under the batons of Ms Huang Xiao-fei, Professor of China Conservatory of Music, renowned conductor and composer; Mr Liu Shun, Associate Professor of the Department of Instrumental Music in China Conservatory of Music and Dr Jerry Blackstone, Co-Director of Choirs at University of Michigan in the United States.

The programme includes spiritual "Walk in Jerusalem", Cantonese music "Riding Horse in Spring", and traditional tune "Variations on Sin-Shui-Ling".

Tickets priced at $60 and $40 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concession is available for senior citizens, people with disability, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. There will be a 10% discount for each purchase of five to nine tickets and 20% discount for ten or more tickets.
