Winners of Inter-school Moral Education Competition receive prizes

The Education Department (ED) yesterday (July 13) presented prizes to 497 winning students of the Inter-school Moral Education Competition.

Officiating at the Prize Giving Ceremony at the Jockey Club Auditorium of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University were the Deputy Director of Education, Mr Anthony Tong, and the Chairman of the Curriculum Development Council's Ad Hoc Committee on Moral and Civic Education, Professor Lee Ming-kwan.

With "Promoting Good Deeds and Words, Developing Good Character" as the theme, the competition aimed at providing students with opportunities to develop positive moral values through extra-curricular activities and introducing new elements to schools for them to push ahead with moral education.

The competition was divided into four categories, namely comic pictures, essay, radio play and video. Students were invited to choose to participate in any of these categories in accordance with their own interest.

More than 1,300 entries were received from 279 schools comprising 190 primary schools and 89 secondary schools.

The first-prize winners are as follows:

Essay Competition

Primary School: Lau Ching Yu/ St. Mary's Canossian School (AM)

Secondary School: Sin Chor Ka/ King's College

Comic Pictures Competition

Primary School: Anny Wong/ Kiangsu & Chekiang Primary School (PM)

Secondary School: Wong Kit Hau/ Pok Oi Hospital Chan Kai Memorial College

Radio Play Competition

Primary School: Fuk Wing Street Government Primary P.M. School

Secondary School: Lok Sin Tong Yu Kan Hing School

Video Competition

Primary School: Baptist (Sha Tin Wai) Lui Ming Choi Primary School

Secondary School: Yan Oi Tong Chan Wong Suk Fong Memorial Secondary School

Teachers, students, parents and other members of the public are invited to browse through the winning entries to be uploaded onto HKeducationCity.net soon.

In addition to the Inter-school Moral Education Competition, the ED is introducing effective teaching methods through various channels to help schools push ahead with moral and civic education.

Of them, the moral education interactive drama "Urgent Ultimate Mission", produced by the ED and the Chung Ying Theatre Company, has been arranged to go on stage in over 100 primary and secondary schools in the 2000/2001 and 2001/2002 school years.

Meanwhile, a moral education radio play and a TV series, jointly produced by the ED and Radio Television Hong Kong, will be broadcast next month and from February to April next year respectively.
