Following is a speech by the Acting Secretary for Health and Welfare, Mr Thomas Yiu, in moving the resolution under the Disability Discrimination Ordinance in the Legislative Council today (July 4):

Madam President,

I move that the Code of Practice on Education under the Disability Discrimination Ordinance (G.N. 3310/2001), which was laid on the table of this Council on 6 June 2001, be amended as set out in the proposed Resolution circulated to Members.

The proposed amendments are textual ones for the sake of better compatibility between the Chinese and English texts of the Code and with a view to improving the interpretation of it.
