Take a bite of the crispy sky in the City Cookie exhibition

******************************************************

Have you ever dreamed of gobbling up a piece of sky up above us? Here comes a chance with the exhibition "City Cookie" organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's Art Promotion Office (APO).

The idea of "City Cookie" originated from two local artists Sara Wong and Leung Chi-wo, who enjoy the city as a space for imagination and inspiration. Through exploring the city space with a mix of daily life and artistic practice, the artists got infinite possibilities in creation and joyful experience in life.

In the "City Cookie" exhibition, Sara Wong and Leung Chi-wo will share their ideas of city space with visitors by transforming their photos of the city's kaleidoscopic skyscape into cookie cutters and pieces of tasty cookies with savory ingredients. The cookies on display will also be served to visitors, allowing them to enjoy the "crook" and "crank" of the sky and the city.

As the first roving exhibition of APO's Artists in the Neighbourhood Scheme, the "City Cookie" starts to run from today (June 6) through June 22, 2001 at the Exhibition Gallery of Sha Tin Town Hall and will move to the Exhibition Hall of Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre and Mass Transit Railway (MTR) Admiralty station from June 27, 2001 to July 18, 2001. Admission is free.

To enable visitors to experience the pleasure of creation in art, the exhibition is supplemented with guided tours and workshops. There are also interactive computer games provided at the venues, where visitors can meet the artists and further grasp the ideas of the exhibition.

In order to promote various kinds of visual arts activities to people from all walks of life, the newly established APO organised an experimental project, the one-year Artists in the Neighbourhood Scheme, in last November. Four groups of local visual artists were selected from a great number of candidates to showcase their works at various cultural venues, bringing visual arts into every corner of the community. The selected groups of artists include Sara Wong and Leung Chi-wo, the installation artist Kum Chi-keung, Hong Kong Modern Chinese Ink Painting Association and the painter Kong Kai-ming.

Moreover, in conjunction with the Roving Art Programme of the "Art in Stations", an initiative by the MTR Corporation, selected works of the artists will be displayed at various MTR stations, including Admiralty, Tsuen Wan, Tsim Sha Tsui, Sai Wan Ho, Kwai Fong and Sheung Wan, as a collaborating effort to further promote visual arts in Hong Kong.

The Sha Tin Town Hall, located at 1 Yuen Wo Road, Sha Tin, opens from 10 am to 8 pm daily. The Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre is located in the Hong Kong Park, 7A Kennedy Road, Central, Hong Kong. It opens from 10 am to 9 pm daily and closes on Tuesdays.
