President Jiang Zemin has arrived in Hong Kong this morning (May 8) to attend the "2001 FORTUNE Global Forum".
The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee-hwa, boarded the President's plane at the airport to extend a warm and hearty welcome to President Jiang and Mrs Jiang, and the official party, which included Vice Premier Mr Qian Qichen and Mrs Qian.
Also greeting the VIPs at the airport were the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal, Mr Justice Andrew Li; the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Donald Tsang; the Financial Secretary, Mr Antony Leung; the Secretary for Justice, Ms Elsie Leung; the Convenor of Executive Council, Mr Leung Chun-ying; and the President of Legislative Council, Mrs Rita Fan.
The greeting party also included the Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Mr Jiang Enzhu; the Commissioner of the Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong, Mr Ji Peiding; and the Force Commander of People's Liberation Army Forces Hong Kong, Mr Xiong Ziren.
Also welcoming President Jiang and the official party at the airport were a group of 150 school children and performance by the Police band.
President Jiang, accompanied by the Chief Executive, will meet senior delegates of "FORTUNE" and business leaders attending the Forum later this afternoon.
In the evening, President Jiang will deliver a keynote address at the Gala Dinner to mark the opening of the Forum at the Grand Hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The "2001 FORTUNE Global Forum" is sponsored by Invest Hong Kong to raise Hong Kong's profile as the best place to do business in Asia. Some 600 political and business leaders have converged on Hong Kong to attend the three-day Forum.
