Update course on communicable diseases

Applications are invited for an "Update Course on Communicable Diseases 2001" to be jointly organised by the Department of Health (DH) and the University of Hong Kong's School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPACE) in May this (2001) year.

This short course provides an update on current communicable diseases important in clinical and public health contexts. It introduces local epidemiology and prevention/control strategy on blood-borne diseases, air-borne, food-borne, vector-borne and childhood infections, infectious skin diseases and common communicable diseases contracted during travelling.

It aims at providing participants with general knowledge on communicable diseases so as to enable them to have a better understanding of how to prevent, treat and control these diseases.

The target audience includes nurses, paramedical health professionals and health educators. The course coordinator is Dr Chan Chi-wing, Honorary Associate Professor of SPACE. The lecturer-in-charge is Dr Wilson Ng. Speakers will include clinicians and public health practitioners.

The fee is $700 per participant. The six-session course will be conducted mainly in Chinese and supplemented in English and will be organised from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm every Wednesday starting May 9. The venue will be Room UC-6, 12/F, United Centre, 95 Queensway, Hong Kong.

The closing date for applications is April 23.
