In response to media enquiries, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Anson Chan, today (March 23) issued the following statement:

I am most grateful to Lau Chin-shek for raising this motion and to all those Members who supported him. This is of course a decision for Members to make. The outcome of this afternoon's House Committee discussion does not in any way affect my relationship with the legislature nor the general respect that I have for all its Members.
