The Commissioner of Police (designate), Mr Tsang Yam-pui, today (December 18) pledged to work together with the community and members of the Force to ensure that Hong Kong continues to be one of the safest and most stable societies in the world.

Speaking to the media this afternoon, Mr Tsang said he was delighted to have been appointed as the new Commissioner to lead a world-class police force.

Noting that the Hong Kong Police Force had gone through a number of major internal reforms in the past few years, Mr Tsang said the change aimed at modernising it through greater use of information technology, improving the quality of its service to the public and strengthening the way it was managed.

He said: "Success has been achieved in all these three areas. I look forward to consolidating these efforts in order to meet the rising expectations of the public and the wishes of my staff.

"I will enjoy working together with all my officers in the force and the community of Hong Kong as a whole to ensure that Hong Kong continues to be one of the safest and most stable societies in the world," Mr Tsang said.
