The Electoral Affairs Commission submitted a report on the 2000 Legislative Council elections to the Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, today (December 8).
The report gives an account of how the Commission supervised the conduct of the Election Committee subsector elections on July 9 and the general election on September 10. It also details how complaints were handled and sets forth the Commission's recommendations for improvement to electoral arrangements.
The Commission, chaired by Mr Justice Woo Kwok-hing and comprises members Mr Norman Leung Nai-pang and Dr Elizabeth Shing Shiu-ching, is an independent body responsible for overseeing electoral arrangements to ensure that elections are conducted openly, fairly and honestly.
It is required under the Electoral Affairs Commission Ordinance to make a report to the Chief Executive within three months of the conclusion of an election.
