Survey on Selection of Jurors by High Court Claimed

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

It is brought to the attention of the Judiciary that someone by the name of Lee Wai-ki, claiming to be the First Clerk of the High Court, has issued letters to some members of the public saying that the High Court is now conducting a survey on the selection of jurors.

In the letter, it alleged that the High Court is now collecting personal particulars and signature of individuals for the purpose of selection of jurors. It also claimed that staff would be sent to visit those individual for verification of personal data.

The Judiciary would like to clarify that the High Court has never conducted any survey for the abovesaid purpose.

According to the present practice of selection of jurors by the High Court, should a member of the public be selected, a summons will be sent to him by registered post requesting his presence in the High Court on a certain date.

The Judiciary has referred the matter to the Police for investigation.
