In response to press enquiries, the Judiciary has issued the following statement on behalf of the Hon Mr Justice Arthur Leong Shiu-chung, Justice of Appeal of the High Court :

"I am greatly honoured that the Chief Executive has accepted the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission to appoint me as the Chief Judge of the High Court. I am mindful of the community's expectation of the High Court in upholding the rule of law, and am willing to do my best to fulfil the community's expectations of me in the appointment."
