Police netted 26 illegal immigrants (IIs) in a container at Kwai Chung Container Terminal last (October 18) night.

Acting on intelligence, Police officers from the Emergency Unit, New Territories South and Customs officers jointly conducted a search on a 40-foot container at Container Terminal Three and discovered 26 men inside shortly after 11 pm.

Initial enquiries revealed that the container was conveyed from Fujian to the terminal by sea at about 4 pm yesterday and it is scheduled to be shipped to New York, the United States, on October 20 (Friday).

The arrested IIs sustained no injuries when found.

Police officers and Customs officers are still searching whether there are any other IIs hiding in other containers at the terminal.

Investigations by the Divisional Investigation Team, Kwai Chung are proceeding.
