The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD), in conjunction with Radio Television Hong Kong, will host a quiz in October with an aim to encourage the public to know more about electrical and mechanical safety, and to adopt good electrical and mechanical (E&M) safety practices in their daily lives.

The quiz covers four areas: electrical safety, gas safety, lift and escalator safety, and energy efficiency.

The competition will start in early October and all members of the public are welcome to join.

From October 9, a number of E&M safety tips related to the quiz would be broadcast daily on RTHK Radio 2 "Morning Suite" programme. Relevant information is also available on a dedicated website www.emsd.gov.hk/contest.

Contestants will need to answer 20 questions on a quiz form, copies of which will be made available in schools, District Offices, housing estate offices, RTHK, EMSD and related organisations as well as on the EMSD website.

Attractive souvenirs and prizes of up to $5,000 computer gift coupons will be offered. The deadline for submission is October 23.

Contestants giving correct answers to all quiz questions may have a chance to participate in an E&M Safety Carnival on November 4 at the Discovery Park shopping mall in Tsuen Wan. The quiz final will be held on the stage to determine winners of the top prizes.

The carnival also includes a live show by RTHK DJs and celebrity singers, as well as interactive exhibitions and booth games.
