Romantic Violinist Aaron Rosand to Perform in Hong Kong

Referred to by colleagues and critics as the last of the "Romantic Virtuosi", Aaron Rosand will bring a violin recital to local audience at 8pm on October 28 (Saturday) at the Tuen Mun Town Hall Auditorium.

During the recital, Aaron Rosand will perform a number of great works with pianist Gerald Robbins, including "Sonata in D" by Vivaldi, "Scotch Fantasy" by Max Bruch, "Chaconne" by J.S. Bach, "Zigeunerwiesen" by Sarasate and a series of pieces arranged by Heifetz.

Rosand has been repeatedly compared to such legends as Heifetz, Milstein, Francescatti, Elman, Kreisler and Ysaye. According to "Gramophone", he has made "some of the greatest recordings of this century". He has also been lauded by Harold Schoenberg of the "New York Times" as "one of the great living exponents of Romantic violin music".

Having studied with pupils of Ysaye and of Leopold Auer, and known for playing of the famed "Kochanski" del Gesus violin, Rosand has collaborated with some of the greatest conductors of our time, including Bernstein, Kubelik, Leinsdorf, Maazel, Reiner, Rostropovich and Tennstedt. He made his debut with the Chicago Symphony at ten and has since appeared with orchestras throughout the globe, say New York, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Houston, London, Paris, Munich, Tokyo, Rome, Vienna and Brussels, as well as the National Symphony, Bayerischer Rundfunk, BBC Wales, English Chamber Orchestra, Concertgebouw and the Halle Orchestra among others.

Pianist Gerald Robbins has distinguished himself internationally as a soloist having performed throughout the world in virtually every major music centres with conductors such as Mehta, Sir Neville Marriner, Remooetel, Blech, etc.He has received critical praise for his recordings. His newly released CD was the Strauss and Turina Piano Quartets performed in the name of the "Lyric Piano Quartet".

Tickets priced at HK$130, $100 and $70 are now available at all URBTIX outlets, with half price concessions for senior citizens, people with disabilities and full time students. There will also be a discount of 15% for Friends of Sha Tin Town Hall, Tuen Mun Town Hall, Tsuen Wan Town Hall and Kwai Tsing Theatre.
