The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, hosted a lunch at Government House today (September 20) for members of the Hong Kong-United States Business Council who are attending the Council's 15th Plenary Session in Hong Kong.
The Chief Executive and Members of the Council warmly welcomed the passage of the legislation granting Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) status to China by the US Senate. They noted that the business communities in America and Hong Kong had made a lot of efforts for many years to secure PNTR status. The passage of PNTR legislation and China's accession to the World Trade Organisation would benefit the US, China, Hong Kong and the world economy.
The Hong Kong-United States Business Council was established to further strengthen the economic relationship, and promote and expand bilateral trade and investment between Hong Kong and the US. Members of the Council are among the leading organisations and industrialists in the two communities.
