"Hong Kong Our Home" Project Competition open to all

****************************************************

A project competition under the theme of "Hong Kong, Our Home" is now open for members of the public that have creative ideas in promoting civic awareness and a sense of belonging among the residents of Hong Kong.

The competition is organised by the Home Affair Bureau (HAB), the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and the Commission on Youth.

Speaking at the press conference on the competition today (September 18), Chairman of the CPCE, Mr Moses Cheng, said: "We hope the participants can demonstrate their creativity and spirit of co-operation by proposing an interesting project to help promote civic awareness. The competition also aims at enhancing the participants' understanding of Hong Kong's culture and heritage.

"This is in line with our long-term objective of fostering among Hong Kong people, especially youths, a sense of belonging and civic responsibility towards Hong Kong."

The theme of the competition is "Hong Kong, Our Home" and could be of any format. However, the project could contain elements that could help the public build up civic values, acquire communication and co-operation skills as well as enthusiasm to serve the community.

The adjudication panel will assess all entries according to their ability to reflect the theme of the competition, creativity, practicability and the cost-effectiveness of the project.

The competition is divided into four categories: Primary School Category, Secondary School Category, Open Category and Family Category. Applicants should submit their proposals to the HAB at 29th floor, Southorn Centre, 130 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai. The deadline for application is October 14, 2000.

Apart from the attractive prizes including scholarships and cash prizes, winners may be invited to jointly implement the awarded projects with the CPCE. The HAB may also support their proposals by granting subsidy.

Details and entry forms are now available at Public Enquiry Services Centres of District Offices or the homepages of the HAB (http://www.info.gov.hk/hab/new/index_e.htm) and the CPCE (http://www.cpce.gcn.gov.hk/competition). Enquiries can be made on telephone number 2835 2170.
