The following is the transcript of the remarks (English portion) made by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Anson Chan, at the Legislative Council Elections Press Centre (September 10):
I've just cast my vote and I hope you all will have the opportunity sometime today to go and cast your vote too. As at 11.30am this morning, I understand that about 300 000 of the registered voters have already cast their votes. There is of course still about 10 hours to go before polling ends. So I do urge everyone, every voter to go and cast their votes so that they can participate directly in community affairs. This is a very precious opportunity. The percentage rate of turnout at 9.61 per cent is not too far below the rate in 1998 but as I said, there's still plenty of time. So I do urge everyone to go and cast their vote. Today is a wonderful day, bright and sunny, so I am sure all family members will be out and enjoy themselves. But I hope that after you have finished all your play activities, before you go home, you'll remember to cast your vote. Thank you.
