Zhang Recital by Li Meng

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will stage a Zheng Recital in the end of this month at Sha Tin Town Hall. Music lovers will be brought with beloved melodies including "Night Rain on Plantain-Framed Windows", "The Moon Rises", "The Lotus", etc.

The recital will be performed by Li Meng,a famous guzheng artist and educator. Li has toured Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Finland, Italy, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau and has participated in numerous international arts festivals.

In 1986, Li entered for the Second Jiangnan String and Wind Instrumental Music Composition and Performance Competition together with folk music ensemble and won a First Class Prize. She received Gardener's Prizes in the National Youth Oriental Cup Guzheng Competition in 1995 and the National Jianye Cup Competition in 1996. In 1997, she was awarded an Outstanding Gardener's Prize in National "Dafeng" Cup Guzheng competition. In 1998, she was named one of Beijing's Outstanding Young Core Teachers.

She is currently the professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, an executive committee member of the Dongfang Guzheng Research Institute, a member of the editorial board of the magazine "The Arts of Chinese Guzheng", a member of the accreditation committee and the editorial committee of the Chinese Folk Orchestral Society.

Her publications include "The Performing Arts of Guzheng in A Reference on Bowed and Plucked String Instruments and Elementary Guzheng Studies", her edited scores include "40 Pieces of Chiuchow Folk Zheng Music", "Selected Pieces of Fujian Zhaoan Zheng Music", "Selected Works of Five Chiuchow Zheng Schools", and her compositions include "Trails of Strings", "Black Tune", and "Eagle's Song" etc. She is listed in "Who's Who in Chinese Music", "a Dictionary of Chinese Musicians", "a Dictionary of Celebrities in Contemporary Chinese Music", and "Who's Who in the World".

The programme will be held at 8 pm on September 30 (Saturday) at Sha Tin Town Hall Cultural Activities Hall. Tickets priced at $100 are NOW available at all URBTIX outlets.
