The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary :

The Judiciary today (July 28) announced the appointment of Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal of the High Court, the Hon Mr Justice Anthony Gordon ROGERS as Vice-President of the Court of Appeal of the High Court, with effect from 31 July 2000.

Mr Justice ROGERS will take the place vacated by the Hon Mr Justice Gerald Michael GODFREY upon his retirement.

The biographical note of the newly-appointed Judge is as follows:

The Hon Mr Justice Anthony Gordon ROGERS, JA

Mr Justice ROGERS was born in the United Kingdom in 1946. He was called to the English Bar in 1969 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1984. He had been in private practice in England (1971 - 1976) and in Hong Kong (1976 - 1993). Mr Justice ROGERS joined the Hong Kong Judiciary as Judge of the High Court in 1993, and was appointed Justice of Appeal in 1997.
