The Transport Department today (June 29) reminds members of the public that the ferry service between Central and Tsuen Wan via Tsing Yi, which is now operated by Hong Kong and Kowloon Ferry Services Ltd, will cease operation from Saturday (July 1).
A spokesman for the department explained that the termination of the service was owing to a drastic decline in patronage after the introduction of cross-harbour bus routes and the commissioning of Mass Transit Railway (MTR) Tung Chung Line.
He said: "Alternative land public transport services are readily available for the public to travel to and from Central, Tsuen Wan and Tsing Yi.
"Passengers may use MTR or cross-harbour bus services to access their destinations.
"Feeder bus and green minibus feeder services are also available to take passengers to the MTR or Airport Railway (AR) stations."
The ferry operator has already put up notices at ferry piers and on board ferries to inform passengers of the service termination, the spokesman added.
He also urged affected passengers to take note of the new arrangement.
