Recall of electric desk fans

****************************

A model of electric desk fan is being recalled from the market after the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) found that it had safety problems.

Acting on a recent complaint, the department found that the internal flexible cable of the fan might be liable to damage during operation, posing a fire hazard.

The retailer, Wellcome Supermarket, had earlier decided to recall the MIKU DFD-25 desk fans and three other models of the same brand name.

But the fan is also on sale through other retailers under a different brand name ASAMI DFD-25. Its local supplier, Many Profit Industrial Ltd, had now agreed to recall the same electric fans from the market.

A spokesman for the EMSD today (June 14) urged consumers who have purchased such fans to stop using them immediately and to return them to the respective retailer and supplier through designated channels as soon as practicable.

Details of the recall can be obtained from Wellcome Supermarket (enquiry hotline : 2870 8888 for MIKU fans) and Many Profit Industrial Ltd. (enquiry hotline : 2422 0547 for ASAMI).
