Police were called in last night (June 4) to assist the handling of a riot on Hei Ling Chau.

At about 7.10 pm, Police received a request for assistance report from the Correctional Services Department to help handle a riot in the Hei Ling Chau Drug Treatment Centre.

A total of six platoons of Police Tactical Units and six Police launches with some 70 officers on board were deployed to the island.

So far, 12 officers, comprising eight from Police and four from the Correctional Services Department sustained injuries during the operation.

They were sent to Queen Mary Hospital and Pamela Youde Eastern Hospital respectively for medical treatment.
