A private car was damaged and 500 people were evacuated in a No.3 alarm fire inside the Cross Harbour Tunnel this (May 29) afternoon.

The car was alight inside the Kowloon-bound tube at 1.24 pm. The fire was upgraded to No.3 alarm at 1.37 pm.

Firemen used two jets and deployed five breathing apparatus teams to fight the blaze. The fire was put out at 1.56 pm.

Fire fighters have evacuated about 500 people from the tunnel.

No injuries were reported.
