Following is the transcript (English portion) of the media session given by the Secretary for Justice, Miss Elise Leung, on her extension of appointment after the Executive Council meeting today (May 16):

I am honored by the invitation of the Chief Executive for me to stay on as the Secretary for Justice for another two years until June 2002.

As a person born and brought up in Hong Kong, I feel the obligation to serve the community. So when Mr Tung asked me to stay on for another two more years, I am pleased to accept. I would like to thank members of the Executive and Legislative Councils and the administration, particularly my colleagues of the Department of Justice and the public, for their encouragement and support during the past three years, and I believe I can count on them for their continued support.
