The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, hosted a banquet in honour of the visiting Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde of Belgium at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre tonight (May 12).
At a meeting held prior to the banquet, Mr Tung updated Prince Philippe on the latest developments in Hong Kong, including the progress of our economic recovery and the development of information technology and innovation and technology.
While stressing the importance to Hong Kong of China's accession to the World Trade Organisation, Mr Tung pointed out that this would definitely also benefit world trade, including the European countries.
The Chief Executive then briefed the Prince on the successful implementation of "One Country, Two Systems" in Hong Kong.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary for Trade and Industry, Mr Tak Hay Chau; the Information Coordinator, Mr Stephen Lam; the Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Communities, Mr Andrew Wong; and the Private Secretary to the Chief Executive, Mr Richard Yuen.
