The following statement is issued by the Judiciary on behalf of the Hon Mr Justice Ching, Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal :

" I will be reaching the retirement age of 65 in October 2000. I look forward to retirement. At the same time, I welcome the opportunity to sit from time to time as a non-permanent member of the Court.

It has always given me great pleasure and honour to serve as a permanent judge of the CFA alongside my colleagues under the distinguished leadership of the Chief Justice. I shall always have fond memories of my service as a permanent judge.

I am also greatly honoured that the Chief Executive has appointed me as a non-permanent judge of the Court of the Final Appeal upon my ceasing to be a permanent judge. My appointment is, of course, subject to the endorsement of the Legislative Council. I am willing to contribute to the work of the Court in my new capacity."
