The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, in conjunction with six major organisations, are inviting students and members of the public to take part in a cartoon drawing competition.
It is the first of a series of activities of a two-month campaign organised for the purpose to promote public awareness of the safe use of lifts and escalators.
The six organisations are the Airport Authority, Hong Kong Housing Authority, Lift and Escalator Contractors Association, Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation, Mass Transit Railway Corporation and Radio Television Hong Kong.
The drawing competition is divided into three categories for primary students, secondary students and adults.
Each category will have three winners and 10 merit awards. Winners of the top prize will be each awarded a $5,000 gift coupon for computer products.
Application forms and leaflets on details of the competition are available from all organizers including the MTR Customer Service Centres (except Airport Express stations), and the KCR Customer Service Centres.
Student participants may submit their work either individually or through their schools. Individual submissions may be delivered to any Customers Service Centre of the MTR stations (except Airport Express Stations) and the KCR stations at Hung Hom, Sha Tin, Tai Po Market and Sheung Shui stations.
Entries may also be sent by post to the Corporate and Community Relations Section, 4th floor, Block 1, Hong Kong Housing Authority Headquarters, 33 Fat Kwong Street, Kowloon.
The deadline for submission of entries is May 31. Enquiries on the competition should be directed to the hotline 2688 1288.
Adjudication will take place in June and winners will be notified in writing to attend a prize presentation ceremony at a carnival, another promotional activity to be held on June 24 at Plaza Hollywood to promote lift and escalator safety.
During the campaign, a series of promotional trailers and educational interviews on the safe use of lifts and escalators will be broadcast on RTHK Radio 2 "Morning Suite" programme in June.
